A small group of people began services on the second Sunday in May, 1955. They purchased an old Jewish Synagogue that same year. This building became the first sanctuary, and due to the location was named, “Central Assembly of God.”
The first pastor was Rev. Donald Bogue. Rev. Charles Kingsfield was elected as pastor in 1957 and he stayed until 1959. The church became affiliated with the Assemblies of God in 1958 with 42 members.
A special business meeting was held on July 29, 1959 with Rev. Huffman, presbyter and Rev. Gannon, district superintendent. Rev. Billy Bell was elected pastor. The church was incorporated during this time. Also, the church moved to its new and present location at 3030 F Avenue NW, having built a new church and parsonage. Brother Bell remained as pastor until 1966.
In April of 1966, Rev. Ramon Booth was elected pastor. Brother Booth pastored Central Assembly of God for 31 years. His last Sunday was in April of 1997. During his time at Central Assembly many improvements were made to the existing building. A bus ministry was very successful in the early 1970’s. Those serving as Youth / Associate Pastors during his time were: Rev. Gary Pilcher, Rev. David Schminkey and Rev. Mark Thomas.
Rev. Mark Thomas was elected pastor in April of 1997, and is currently serving in this capacity. Under his leadership, construction on an Activity Building was finished in 2005. Summer Youth Pastors serving under Pastor Thomas include: Jason Terry, Steve Haldeman and Kevin McCormick.
Thank God for the leadership God has provided Central Assembly of God throughout the past 53 years.
